The price is by and large depending on the duration of treatment in addition to the complexity of your case. People who have more crooked teeth can expect to pay well over those who need minor tooth movement only. Also, there's the cost of the retainers right after the treatment is completed. Again, this can vary but typically start at $500 and up.Listed below are some estimates. The starting cost for braces of six months or less is all about $2500. I never managed to find anything less in 2012. The charge goes up following that and may rise to $6000 or higher if you need to wear braces for over 12 months.

Have You Considered Insurance?
Many insurers will cover nearly 50% of the expense of your braces. This can be as high at $2000 in some instances. Nearly all people don’t even know they have this benefit and they let the cost of braces prevent them from getting started. You can just ask your dentist or orthodontist to check your insurance coverage for you.

Even if you don't have dental insurance there’s good news:

There are various ways for financing your braces with no interest. For instance, if the cost of your treatment is $4000, you'll be able to pay $166/month for just two years or extendyour payments a whole lot more and pay under $100/month.Since getting braces is a long term process, you don’t need to pay in advance and you can now pay as you go. That way, it is a lot more affordable and you could still get the key benefits of having straight teeth.

Exactlty what can you expect when getting braces?

As outlined above, the time frame related to getting braces may differ greatly. However, you are very likely to see your dentist about every 4 to 6 weeks. This is true for both traditional braces in addition to invisalign. At each visit, your dentist will check to make sure your teeth are moving correctly as well as guarantee your teeth are healthy and you are not getting any cavities. Getting your regular cleanings is vey important also since with braces you might be more likely to get food stuck around your teeth. During the course of braces we usually recommend that you get your cleanings done every 3 to 4 months to make sure you don't develop new cavities or gum disease.

for more information, check our site at http://www.bracescostinfo.net/

Here's what I REALLY think

Instead of boring you with another bunch of information about dental stuff, I though I would tell you a little about me and how I approach life and work.

I am a dentist, but I TOTALLY understand that most people HATE going to the dentist. It’s a very uncomfortable situation, painful, time-consuming and expensive. I Really understand that it takes a huge leap of faith to let a total stranger put their hands in your mouth and poke you with sharp objects not to mention drill on your teeth while you’re totally awake.

In this world of fast online services and instant gratification, dentistry is still one of those areas where you actually have to physically go there, sit down, talk to someone face to face and let them touch you in a very personal way. It can be overwhelming.

I just want to let you know if you’re reading this that I appreciate the trust people put in me and I feel lucky to be in this profession. I don’t feel entitled and I don’t think you should listen to everything I say. I know that you come to the dentist to resolve a problem and I want to help you get to your goal, whatever that may be.

So thanks for reading this. I’m working on adding more pictures, videos, etc.. to make this blog more exciting. This is a question we struggle with everyday in our dental office. To some people, having healthy, beautiful teeth is worth tens of thousands of dollars. To others, getting out of pain and even getting rid of infection in their mouth is not worth even a few hundred dollars.

So how do we evaluate the price of dental health as a society? there have been a few studies on this topic. One by the Journal of Periodontology found that people with gum disease have 21% higher health care costs than people with healthy gums. The logical conclusion would be that it is attributed to the higher amount of dental care needed, but actually, dental disease and infections in the mouth can travel into the body.

These infections can cause many other, seemingly unrelated, issues in the rest of the body. For example there have been studies linking gum disease and diabetes, gum disease and heart disease even stroke and preterm births for pregnant women. That is crazy considering that going to the dentist regularly can cost less than $1000/year whereas treatment of diabetes, stroke and heart disease can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Another cost is the indirect cost of taking time off work and school. Statistics released by the Dental, Oral and Craniofacial Resource Center show that over $164 million hours of work were lost in a single year by employed people in the United States to deal with dental problems. This is costing us millions of dollars per year.

Of course, we all know the social cost of poor oral health. For example, people with missing teeth are less likely to be hired as employers consider them less intellignet and trustworthy than candidates with good oral health.

So PLEASE, don’t just think about the bill at the dentist. When you consider the REAL costs of poor oral health, going to the dentist is a real bargain!!

visit us at: www.ladentalclinic.com

Go Ahead, Eat That Cake!

OK here I am, a dentist, telling you it’s ok to eat cake. With the holidays in full swing, we’re all going to get our fair share of cakes and sweets. Just know that it’s not the cake or the amount of sugar that you eat, rather it’s how long the sugar stays on your teeth. For example, sticky candy is much worse than a chocolate bar because the sticky stuff will hang around longer on your teeth before it’s washed away by saliva.

Sugars are what feed the bacteria in the plaque that forms on your teeth. The bacteria then produce acid which eats away at your teeth causing cavities. That’s why the less time the acid is attacking your teeth, the less likely you are to get a cavity on those teeth. If you do eat sweets, try to eat them in one sitting rather than nibbling on candy or sipping on soda or juice all day. This minimizes the time the acid is active in your mouth. Also, just rinsing with water can dilute a lot of the sugars and wash it away.

So go ahead, enjoy your holidays and your sugary treats. Just remember to take care of your teeth also.

Please leave me comments or "Like" us onfacebook, link: www.facebook.com/L.ADental and say hi. People always ask me what they should use. I’ll start with the one I’m using now. It’s from Oral – B. I like it because the bristles are soft and the vibration is not soooo strong. The good thing about the vibrating-type tooth brushes is that you don’t have to “scrub” your teeth so much since the vibration does that for you. You just have to hold the tooth brush next to your teeth and move it along the gumline slowly.

There is also a timer which will tell you when to move to the next section of your mouth. It is 30 seconds per each quarter of your mouth or 2 minutes total. Doing it this way takes the guesswork out of it and you know you got a good cleaning.

I have been very happy using this tooth brush for a while and the smaller head size is easy to get waaaay in the back where bigger toothbrushes can’t reach.

Of course, don’t forget to floss!!

We "Heart" Spit

Yes, that ‘s right. We just love saliva. It is an amazing, miraculous material that we all take for granted.

It is necessary to lubricate your mouth and to prevent you from having that dry feeling in your throat and mouth. Also, did you know that there are enzymes in saliva that actually start the digestion process? Your mouth is actually the first part of the digestive tract and your teeth and saliva start to break down the food that will later be attacked by the strong stomach acids.

Another role of saliva is that it acts as a protective film on teeth and it neutralizes the acids in foods and drinks. It helps to prevent cavities by neutralizing those acids that could erode enamel. People who have lower salivary flow tend to get a LOT more cavities and also they tend not to taste their food as much.

So what can decrease salivary flow?? The main culprits are medications, alcohol, smoking and excessive caffeine intake.

Almost all medications can have an effect on your salivary glands. If you notice that you have a drier mouth or your food tastes different after starting a medication, it is most likely because you have less salivary flow. This is common with cancer patients who are on chemotherapy or radiation therapy and have had a sudden decrease in their salivary flow. In these cases, you want to be extra vigilant about cavities. We routinely prescribe fluoride treatment and more regular checkups.

Other symptoms of dry mouth are:

• A sticky, dry feeling in the mouth, including a dry, red, raw

• Sores in the mouth; sores or split skin at the corners of the mouth; cracked lips.

• Frequent thirst, bad breath, problems speaking, difficulty tasting, chewing and swallowing.

We can help you keep your teeth healthy for a lifetime.

Sensative Issues

When someone comes to me complaining of tooth “sensitivity”, I usually run down the following list of possible causes1. gum recession – As we get older or as a result of plaqe buildup, crooked teeth or an accident. Recession can expose the area of the tooth not covered by enamel, the root. This means that whenever you drink something cold, you get sensitivitiy in those areas. There are many solutions to this, but one of the most simple and quick ways is to cover those sensitive spots with bonding that matches your tooth. Other solutions can include gum surgery, cleaning of the gums and sometimes moving the teeth into the proper position.2. A cracked toot or filling – If a piece of your tooth or filling is missing, the sensitive dentin layer of the tooth will be exposed and will be sensitive to biting, cold and hot. If the crack extends to the roots of the tooth it can even cause extreme pain and headaches. Cracked tooth can be very difficult to diagnose as we can’t see it on x-rays and the cracks are so small that we can’t even see them in your mouth sometiems. Solutions to cracked teeth can be as simple as a filling or even the loss of the tooth if the crack is deep enough.3. Grinding of teeth – Many people can grind their teeth in their sleep or even when driving, in front of the computer etc… Grinding teeth can wear down the enamel and cause sensitivity. You can also cause damage to the temporo-mandibular joint and even cause muscel soreness. The simplest way to deal with this is to start with a nightguard which can protect your teeth and your joints. From there, you can restore severly wrn down teeth with fillings or crowns to help protect them.4. Enamel Erosion – Erosion is the result of acid on the enamel. There are two ways acid can get on your teeth. The first is by eating acidic foods or sucking on lemons and oranges regularly. The second is the acid from your stomach that can come into the oral cavity if you have untreated acid reflux disease. Both of these can cause severe damage to the teeth over time. Solutions are to prevent the acid from hitting the teeth in the first place by controlling reflux or by avoiding acidic foods. If the erosion is sever, you may need root canals and crowns to repair the damage.Hope this helps you narrow down why your teeth are sensitive. In a previous post, I discussed the risk factors associated with caries, everything from your habits, to your previous dental history.

Now, I want to discuss the second area that I focus on as a dentist when doing your examination - This has nothing to do with your teeth, but has everything to do with how long you keep them. It is your periodontal health. What is that?? Well, that involves all the structures that hold your teeth in your mouth like your gums and the bone around your teeth.

Periodontal disease can be silent and painless for many, many years and is the leading cause of tooth loss in the United States. When we do a comprehensive exam, we do measurements around all your teeth to get a baseline of the amount of bone loss and swelling around each tooth.

Based on your measurements, we then decide on a plan to get your gums and your bone to optimal health and to keep them that way.

the cheapest way to keep your gums healthy is to just get your cleanings done every six months. Even if you have other dental work that you cannot do at this time, at least keep your dental hygiene visits current.

Here are some of the risk factors for periodontal disease that we take into account when planning your treatment.

1 Previous history - How long has it been since you've seen the dentist? Do you have a history of gum disease? Are your gums bleeding? etc..

2. Periodontal Measurements - A tooth brush bristle can only go about 3-4 mm below your gums, therefore, if your measurements are above this, we need to reduce those measurements so you can easily maintain your gums healthy over the long term.

3. Smoking - Yet another reason not to smoke !!

4. Diabetes and other systemic diseases - Some chronic diseases can decrease your healing ability and cause more bone loss and swelling of your gums.

I hope this helps you to see how important your bone and gums are and to better understand what we are doing when we're looking in your mouth.

Until next time.

Make Your Appointment Online!

We would like to introduce to you our new online "Schedule An Appointment" App on our website at www.ladentalclinic.com. We want you to understand that all forms of tobacco contain a high concentration of cancer-causing agents. The practice of chewing and dipping tobacco and juices left behind; which stay in your mouth for a long period of time. This prolonged exposure gives tobacco users an increased risk of cancer; on the lip, cheeks, tongue, gums, the roof of your mouth and the bottom of your mouth. Smokeless tobacco also leads to unhealthy, uncomfortable, and serious dental issues, such as; loss of enamel; which causes sensitive teeth, pain, and tooth decay. Not only that but just like smoking tobacco, it causes you to have stain on your teeth and foul breath. It also damages your gum; which causes tooth loss.
Please take the first step to a healthier future. You do one of the most important things in life with your mouth; which is eat and drink, not only that but you smile, kiss and so on too. As I've mentioned before if you have a diseased mouth, you start to have bad breath all the time, your taste changes drastically causing you not to enjoy eating anymore. When things like these start to happen you start to have a low self esteem and become insecure of your mouth.

A diseased mouth is caused by not eating healthy, not getting your regular cleanings, drugs, not brushing your teeth as many times as you should. These cause your mouth to have bacteria and/ or infection build up. Since your mouth is connected to nerves and blood system just like any other part in your body, when you drink or eat, all that bacteria and infection gets swallowed into your stomach and blood system which causes twice the problem in the future.

We want you to know all these things because we want all of our patients to have a great oral health, healthy body and a healthy long life.

Reason #5 of Why you should get your dental cleanings.

#5-Detect dental problems early.

Many people in the world feel that their teeth & gums are not a top priority and are not a big deal. Believe it or not they are a very important essence of your body. You speak, smile, eat, drink, and so on with it. When you don't mantain your oral health, you have bad breath, bad taste and recession on your gums.

When we detect a cavity, it may cost you a hundred or so to fix the cavity. When you think it's not a big deal and just leave it alone because either you think it's too pricey or you don't feel like nothing needs to be done the cavity will proceed to grow out of anything. We want you to be aware that any issue in your mouth will get worse not better if not taken care of in time. Over time cavity grows bigger and deeper attacking your tooth's nerve causing bacteria and infection to grow, at that point instead of costing one hundred dollars, it costs over one thousand dollars to fix it.

We want you to keep all your teeth because once you loose your natural teeth, it is not the same to have artificial teeth.

We always advice our patients to come in for their regular check ups because we want to make sure everything is taken care of and we can do the best we can to prevent any problems to start or grow in your mouth. That's why we're here, the super hero for your teeth and gums:)

Thanks for reading our blog, follow up with us for Reason #6.

Why you should get your teeth cleaned. Reason #4

Reason #4= Preserve Your Smile:)

Your smile can determine your overall hygiene. As in the previous blogs, when you don't get your cleanings as often as you should it can cause serious conditions. In some cases conditions develop more quickly while in other cases it can take many years to develop. We want you to mantain your teeth and gums healthy. As a young boy he enjoyed doing activities with his friends, especially playing soccer. As a side job he would work at a bakery shop. Life in El Salvador was not what he expected as an adult; so he came to the United States in 1981 to fulfill his American dream. He started off by working in a computer shop. Today he is a janitor for buildings, and is married with two daughters.

As a young boy he never took importance of his teeth. He felt his teeth weren’t a priority and is not an important matter when you only have so much money to budget for. His teeth today has impacted him when he started working for buildings, he is always around people and talking to them. It brings down his self esteem and confidence since he always feels people stare at his teeth not him. He grew to realize how important his teeth can determine someone. He has tried doing some treatment before but never had enough money to complete any of it, due to his responsibilities as a head household married man.

After reviewing his case, we felt he was the right one and it would really benefit him in many ways. Upon telling him he was chosen to be a part of our smile makeover, he jumped with excitement. He couldn’t believe his dream smile was going to come true.

He feels the smile makeover is going to change his life and how he feels. He is going to regain confidence and won’t be afraid to smile, talk or be around anybody anymore. Now he won’t be embarrassed rather prideful of his brand new teeth. He said he would feel embarrassed to even talk but now with his smile makeover, he is going to show off his smile to the whole wide world!

Congratulations Santos from LA Dental Staff!

Reason #3, Why you should get your teeth cleaning regurlarly.

3. Goes Beyond Your Teeth, helps maintain good health.

Apart from your teeth being connected to your gums and mouth. Your teeth have a pulp that connects to little veins that run through your oral mouth and just like other parts of our body it is connected to main veins and blood.
Let me give you an example.. When you have an open wound and don't take care of it, there are chances it may get infected, if it gets infected and you don't take care of it, that infection will start to grow and get into your blood system and make a worser problem. Believe it or not, something small can become big.
It's the same thing as if there was an infection in one of your teeth.
When you have gingivitis, infection or what not, it causes your taste buds to change. It changes the way the food taste. Which means that you can't enjoy eating like you used to.
Think about it, when your mouth is not at it's best condition, you can't enjoy eating, drinking, kissing, ect.
We want you to enjoy everything and not have an issue. That's why we want you to maintain a good oral health.

Reason #2

#2 Help Fight Gum Disease.

Gum Disease is one of the most common conditions in the world. When you come in for your regular hygiene appointments, dentist/hygienist use instruments and medication that help scrape up any plaque and/or tartar build up that your brush or teeth can not take off on it's own. When you don't go to your dental appointments the plaque(bacteria) starts feeding off sugar, food, anything that may get stuck in between your teeth. Your gum starts to get redish and become puffy which gives bacteria easier access to get under your gums. As time proceeds that plaque turns into tartar, hard particles, that become tougher to remove. Over time this tartar starts to eat up your gum and bone, which is the reason why people get recession(tooth looks longer) and bone loss. All this symptoms causes you to have loose teeth and eventually your teeth will start falling off on their own.
That is another reason why we emphazise our patients to come in for their cleanings. We want to prevent you from dealing with conditions like these. It lowers your self esteem and is 10 times more costly to restore your smile at that point.

Stay in tune for the 3rd reason..

10 Reasons To Get your teeth cleaned.

‎Top 10 Reasons Why You Should Get Your Cleanings
Lets Start off with Reason #1:

1. However, here at Los Angeles Dental, we take a much more wholistic approach to your teeth. We realize that your teeth are attached to your head and your head is attached to the rest of you so we want to make sure we address you as a whole person.
That's why we look at dental health from four different areas of risk
1. - Risk of decay - If you are someone who always has 7 new cavities when you go to the dentist, or if you drink 3 cans of soda per day, you are at high risk for dental decay. You may not have any new cavities, but just based on your habits and your previous history we like to take an aggressive approach to make sure you dont' get any new cavities. Things like fluoride treatments, frequent cleanings and not just "watching" those discolorations in your teeth that could become full blown cavities in the future. These are low cost ways to prevent the high pain and high costs things like root canals in the future.

By being more aware of you as a whole person and taking into account your history, habits , medications etc... we can help you prevent more complicated dental work in the future.

I will discuss the next 3 risk factors in our next posts.
Have a great day.

Healthy Gums

Healthy Gums

Having a straight and white smile is a lot of patients’ ideal goal for confidence and feeling attractive. As dentists we know that there is something more than just having straight, white teeth but healthy gums to keep them in place. Beautiful teeth can sustain themselves if healthy gums support them.
Most people appreciate and understand the importance of brushing and flossing their teeth twice a day and coming to their hygiene appointments regularly.
It is very important to properly clean your teeth and feel encouraged to maintain healthy gums. Flossing is needed to remove any bacteria that may get stuck in between your teeth, where your brush can’t reach. Feel free to ask us for a refresher on proper brushing and flossing, or other options available to help maintain a healthy smile.

New Team Member

We would like to welcome Ravi Pathak to our LA Dental Team. Dr. Nasiry and the staff panicked, they didn’t want to close the office for that long; they wanted to still be able to see their patients and remodel the office at the same time. After their request was granted, they were able to take care of their patients and their dental needs. Even if it was a bit of a struggle to take care of the remodeling and the patients at the same time, LA Dental always has that magic thing to make everything run smooth. Dr. Nasiry and the staff felt this remodeling was going to take forever; it actually finished quicker then expected. After many meetings with designers/contractors and also making big trips to IKEA, Home Depot, and ECT. They were finally able to finish remodeling the office.

The new office allows LA Dental to make their patients feel more home-like and happy to
come back for more treatment, something that Dr. Nasiry has been aching to do
for years. Even though with her success of making patients feel calm during their
dental visit, she felt she needed that extra kick of having a welcoming look to
her dental practice.

“I have turned this office from an ancient office into a 21st Century office” says Dr. Nasiry proudly. She just feels that everything deserves an upgrade now and then, so she was able to unveil a fresh new look for her office.

LA Dental would love for you to have a cup of coffee and take a look at the new office.

THE RISKS OF MISSING TEETH

It is important to replace missing teeth. Many people leave gaps in their mouth for years, especially if the missing teeth are in the back. However, a gap due to even a single missing tooth can lead to a domino effect of other dental problems.

A gap due to one or more missing teeth allows other teeth in the area to drift into the open space. The teeth on the sides of the gap and opposite the gap tend to tip, tilt or "grow into" the space. This can create changes in your bite and chewing habits and can potentially lead to pain in your jaw, cavities and gum disease and can lead to loss of more teeth.

Missing teeth also force you to chew only on one side or only with your front teeth. This puts extra pressure on your existing teeth. Front teeth are designed for biting and cutting and not chewing. If you are mainly chewing with your front teeth, these will eventually wear down, become loose and start to hurt.

Many people with missing teeth find that it is difficult to chew harder foods. This leads to lowered consumption to nutritional fruits and vegetables which are important in a healthy, balanced diet.

Please call us about replacing any missing teeth. Early intervention will help you avoid more extensive and expensive dentistry in the future!

FAQ's on Dental Implants

Q. Am I a candidate for dental implants?
A: If you’re missing one or more teeth, and have healthy gums and overall good oral health, you’re probably a good candidate for dental implants. A dental implant and a crown can replace a missing tooth in a very natural way. If you're missing several teeth, you may want to consider dental implants with a bridge or as a way to hold loose dentures in place more securely. Even if you're already wearing dentures, adding two or four dental implants can make the dentrues (especially the lower one) MUCH tighter and it won't move around anymore while you're eating.

Q. What are the advantages of dental implants?
A: Because dental implants look and feel like your own teeth, the main advantage is the improved look and feel of the teeth. Many people say dental implants have transformed the way they eat, chew and even smile!! Dental implants will allow you to enjoy eating a healthy diet that includes vegetables and fruits that are hard to chew with dentures or with no teeth. Also, becuase they don't cover the roof of your mouth, like dentures, dental implants allow you to taste the foods you eat much better and you will find that you speak better too without having to worry about your dentures coming loose or moving around.
Another less known advantage of dental implants is that they will help your body preserve the bone of your jaws. Because they act like a natural tooth, the bone will not resorb like it does with dentures or with no teeth present. Maintaining the bone in your face will help your face look "fuller" and will prevent the sinking in of the lips and mouth that happens as we age.

Q. What is the typical cost of an implant??
A: Although it is hard to say with accuracy, at LA Dental we have just LOWERED our implant prices. We are now offering the COMPLETE IMPLANT PACKAGE for only $2000. This includes the implant, the post and the crown for a single tooth. If you need additional procedures such as adding bone to the area or if you're missing several teeth, the cost will vary. Feel free to call us at 213-385-9710 for a FREE report sent to you or come in for a FREE consultation anytime. This way we can create a more accurate custom plan for you.

Our Office

We've been open for about 10 months now. During these months, we've had some great people who walked through that door and gave us a shot at helping them care for their mouths. We did our best, and in return, they have become our loyal patients. We've had some amazing success with our cases and I'd love to share some of our best ones yet.

We took a course in customer service. So far, we've gotten some pretty good feedback from patients who noticed a difference between our office and ones they've been to before. Providing customer service like the Ritz Carlton, as the course taught us, has won the hearts of many patients. That has helped them decide to make a life long commitment to continue coming to us for their dental needs. They know they are in good hands when they can tell that the manager, assistant and even the doctor are putting in that one extra degree of effort. That one extra degree can make or break the office-patient relationship. Once the reasons behind tooth discoloration can be identified, you can easily work toward diminishing the amount of discoloration. There are also methods for repairing tooth discoloration which can be used to restore teeth to their former white and beautiful appearance.

One culprit of discoloration is beverages and foods that you eat. For instance, teeth staining beverages includes coffee, different teas, and even wines of the red variety. Also, some food have dyes in them that contribute to the staining. As you age, you should expect teeth discoloration due to regular daily use, so change in color is to be expected as time goes by.

Another very common factor to the rapid staining of teeth is chewing tobacco or having a smoking habit. The nicotine and tar do a great job discoloring your teeth. Sometimes to the point beyond restoration.

Regular cleanings with your Dentist will clearly help to minimize issues with the discoloration of teeth. Brushing your teeth every single day, at least two times per day, will keep them as clean as possible. Using toothpaste with whitening agents will help maintain the discoloration. Of course, while at the dentist’s office, you might want to consider speaking with the dentist about different treatments for tooth discoloration like bleaching and whitening.

Could you be damaging your teeth while you sleep?

Did you know that while you sleep you could actually be causing significant damage to your teeth? Many people have a problem identified as bruxism and many do not realize that they are having this problem. What exactly is bruxism? Bruxism is merely the act of grinding your teeth and clenching your jaw. While this may seem like a benign act, over time the grinding of your teeth at night can actually damage them significantly.
People that develop bruxism are identified as bruxers. Bruxers can grind teeth night or day, but a significant issue can develop for the night-time bruxer. Since the teeth grinding and jaw clenching occurs in the evening while the bruxer is sleeping, he or she is not really aware of how much pressure and grinding is actually occurring. A number of secondary effects are associated with bruxism, and bruxers tend to suffer from morning headaches, an achy jaw, ear aches, and unexplained facial discomfort.

While bruxism can be painful the bruxer develops issues with his or her teeth too. The continuous grinding and pressure can cause teeth to chip, crack, break, and eventually fall out. Teeth also have a specific shape for easier eating and chewing, but this shape can be mashed down and flattened with continuous jaw clenching and grinding. In addition, bruxers also suffer from the erosion of tooth enamel as well as a significant increase in the sensitivity of one’s teeth.

If you suspect that you have bruxism, you will most certainly want to visit a dentist for a full evaluation. The dentist will, in turn, monitor your condition. If treatment is warranted, a qualified dentist will be able to advise you about your options for dealing with bruxism.

The Facts about Dental Amalgam (Silver Fillings)

There has been considerable controversy over the use of dental amalgams which are fillings crafted out of different metal materials including mercury. Dental amalgams are actually made up of a mixture of alloy powder; the latter alloy powder may be made up from a variety of metals including copper, tin, silver, palladium, indium, zinc, and mercury. There has been considerable concern about the potential dangers of the mercury used within dental amalgams in particular and the potential health effects that it might have on the individual.

Since the 70s, dental amalgams have been used with increasingly less frequency simply because dental practices and oral hygiene practices have improved considerably. In fact, statistics reveal that there has been roughly a 40 percent drop in the use of dental amalgams since the early 1980s; as advances in dentistry continue, this reduction-related percentage is expected to increase even further since the need for amalgams will continue to diminish. Nevertheless, in some instances it is still necessary to turn to amalgams in situations where tooth restoration is required.
Dental amalgams are still used today and according to the American Dental Association have been researched extensively. Amalgams are considered completely safe for restorative use and are found to be more durable than other restorative dental products. Amalgams are often used when one has quite a bit of tooth deterioration, can be used as foundation material for tooth rebuilding, and can cost far less than other restorative dental products and options as well.

Are you always tired? Sleep apnea involves the interruption of breathing while one is asleep as the sleeper will briefly cease breathing and start breathing again, sometimes many times in a single sleep session. When an individual with sleep apnea has problems breathing this can cause other health issues to develop. How do you know if you are suffering from a condition like sleep apnea? Here are five questions to ask yourself:

Do you snore on and off throughout the evening, excessively and even loudly? Snoring is one of the primary signs and indicators of sleep apnea, particularly in cases where the sleeper suffers from obstructive apnea. Obstructive sleep apnea occurs when an individual experiences a blockage within his or her airway. When the airway remains partially open the individual will pass air through that partially open section of the airway: this can result in loud and excessive bouts of snoring.

Are you often overtired or exhausted during daytime hours even after getting a full evening of sleep? People with sleep apnea are constantly being interrupted during the evening when they sleep. Every time the individual stops breathing and then later gasps for air he or she is aroused slightly: this pattern of broken sleep causes the sufferer to be tired throughout the day.

Do you find that you have issues going to sleep in the evening? When an individual has sleep apnea his or her sleep pattern is disrupted. A disrupted sleep pattern can lead to issues such as insomnia.

Do you sometimes find that you wake up with unexplained headaches? Since the sleeper suffering from sleep apnea is repeatedly experiencing interruptions in his or her breathing cycle, carbon dioxide is building up in the system over time. The accumulation of C02 in small levels can create an issue with headaches.

Is your throat often scratchy and sore when you first awaken? Since the individual with sleep apnea is constantly snoring and trying to catch one’s breath, the throat can become dry, sore, and irritated on a regular basis.

Sleep apnea is a serious health condition which must be properly addressed. There are a number of treatments for sleep apnea which can be discussed with your dentist or doctor. Some treatments can involve surgery, but often a simple Snore appliance can resolve many issues and give you a good night's sleep.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://ladentalclinic.blogspot.com/2009/03/are-you-always-tired-you-might-have.html' title='Are you always tired? In order to ensure the longevity of one’s oral health, regular visits to the dentist every six months to a year are highly recommended. A dentist will examine your mouth and assess if there are any underlying conditions that can lead to future dental problems.
The potential for developing dental problems and health problems is high if one does not get regular checkups. For example, uncared for teeth can lead to gum disease. Gum disease can begin without an individual even knowing that he or she has developed the condition. Later, as the disease slowly progresses, the situation worsens and the individual can end up losing teeth because of it. For more information on gum disease, visit www.perio.org

The development of gum disease or periodontal disease can result in further health complications if left untreated. For example, experts have revealed a significant link between the development of gum disease and issues with the heart. Gum disease is believed to be responsible for the sudden and unforeseen release of baneful bacteria into one’s body. The release of these bacteria can have a systemic wide effect, causing and producing an array of illnesses. What’s more, these bacteria can have a seriously negative impact on one’s heart.

L.A. In addition to regularly brushing your gums, teeth, and tongue, flossing MUST be incorporated into your brushing routine. If an you wear dentures, they should be thoroughly and regularly cleaned. Keeping the mouth clean is the first way to keep your breath odor-free.

Second, it is necessary to visit a dentist a minimum of two times each year: this will ensure that the mouth is healthy and that the individual has not developed any dental disorders or diseases which can later lead to halitosis.

You should also get into the habit of using a tongue scraper. A tongue scraper helps remove some of the odor causing bacteria that grows on your tongue. A scraper is easy to use and can be used regularly after every time you brush. Finish off with a mouth wash rinse to keep your breath fresh longer throughout the day.

Smokers longing for fresher breath should drop the habit right away. Smoking cigarettes and even chewing tobacco can make the breath smell sour and stale. In addition, smoking can lead to other conditions in the mouth that may promote the onset of halitosis.

Keeping the interior of your mouth as moist as possible is recommended for those seeking to fend off breath odor; this can be done a number of ways. You may want to increase the amount of water intake every day. Also sucking on an unsweetened candy or chewing unsweetened gum can also help moisten the mouth by encouraging saliva production.

Finally for fresh breath throughout the day, you should monitor your food intake. Be aware of the odors the food you plan on eating will give you. Come prepared with mints and/or a toothbrush to keep you fresh after your meal. If you're not sure, play it safe and order something simple!

L.A. It is true; job interviewers are more accepting of an individual that possesses a warm and inviting smile. Your smile is part of the first impression that you must make with a potential employer, client, or an individual that you interact with; that being the case, you will most definitely want to make sure that your smile is well cared for and in perfect condition.

LA Dental Clinic
2500 Wilshire Blvd Ste 1100
Los Angeles, CA 90057
(213)385-9710
www.LADentalClinic.com

Welcome

<img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt;
